As you know, most of the top branded smartphones come with a metal body. This material is considered to be one of the most resistant against drops, scratches, and fingerprints. But metal gets hot very quickly and freezes when sufficiently cold. So some top manufacturers pack their flagships with glass or ceramic housing. The original Xiaomi mi MIX was the second phone after the legendary Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a ceramic housing. We had been waiting for a ceramic housing to appear on the Mi 5S. But the latter lacked it. Though ceramic makes the phones look stylish and provide better signal transmission, it is fragile. However, this doesn’t prevent people from stucking at phones with such a body. That’s why the Chinese Apple decided to pack its premium flagships with this material as well. That’s why the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 sport such a housing. This also means we should keep fingers on the pulse because the first photos of broken ceramic handsets will appear one after another. As for now, we have the photos of the broken Xiaomi Mi MIX 2.
The Verge was shooting a video with the top-of-the-line specs of this amazing handset. But accidentally the phone fell down and a small piece from a right upper corner broke down. This is the brightest example how vulnerable a ceramic body is. But such cases don’t happen every day. Moreover, if you want to avoid similar situations you can use the protective cover coming in the box.
Other than that, the first-gen Xiaomi Mi MIX has had similar problems as well. But we saw a few cases with a broken screen rather than a broken rear shell. It is more painful because the manufacturer required 1350 Yuan ($196) to repair it. Sometimes even the protection case didn’t save the phone. So, when buying a glass or ceramic smartphone, be ready to be more attentive towards your phone.
