IPL 2023 Auction: Top 10 Picks Of All Teams

Chennai Super Kings

Best Buys: Ben Stokes (16.25 crore), Ajinkya Rahane (Rs 50 lakh).

This is a dream T20 batting line-up with multi-skilled players on any surface. As he bids adieu to his favourite canary yellow jersey, Stokes could be the man leading the field when the big man retires. Dhoni wanted a replacement for Dwayne Bravo, a player of immense value.

All-rounders who could hit big between overs 16-20 and exploit the tacky Chennai surface with variations were looked at by CSK. All-rounder England went all out for Jason Holder after initially considering Holder.

Mumbai Indians

Best Buy: Cameron Green (Rs 17.50 crore), Jhye Richardson (Rs 1.50 crore)

Cameron Green, at 23 years old, was an ideal player for their team. At Wankhede Stadium, both Green and Tim David will be dangerous with their monstrous power hits. The bowling of Green and David on these tracks is not their strongest suit. But MI's purchase of Jhye Richardson, a fine T20 bowler, was a good move since he will be Jofra's backup foreign bowler.

Punjab Kings

Best Buys: Sam Curran (18.5 crore), Sikander Raza (50 lakh)

After his brilliant performance during the T20 World Cup, Curran was always going to seek a bid in the USD 2 million range. Curran will now play the majority of his games in Mohali, where the evening dew and flat deck can interfere. His bowling was perfect for the surfaces in Chennai and Delhi, where some deliveries will hold up and others will skid through.

He spent a few seasons in Mohali, and the results weren't particularly encouraging. But Curran was just a teenager at the time, and this man is an experienced worker.

Lucknow Super Giants

Best Buys: Nicholas Pooran (Rs 16 crore), Daniel Sams (75 lakh)

However, it is beyond comprehension to select Nicholas Pooran as a finisher rather than one of the all-rounders. Additionally, with Quinton de Kock in the lineup, the big gloves will be interesting to see who takes them on. LSG's Pooran appears to be the worst purchase among franchises with a reasonable budget.

In 2021, he played 11 innings and scored 85 runs. In 2022, he played 13 innings and scored 306 runs at a 144 strike rate, but only two of those innings were over fifty for Sunisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Best Buys: Harry Brook (Rs 13.25 crore), Mayank Agarwal (8.25 crore), Heinrich Klaasen (5.25 crore)

With over 42 crore in their bank account when they arrived, Sunrisers Hyderabad were the ultimate paddle pushers thanks to their two million-dollar acquisitions of Indian opener Mayank Agarwal and Englishman Harry Brook. Agarwal is currently out of contention for India in all formats, but save for last year, he has been a reliable IPL player. The auction dynamics would have led to his heavy-duty bidding, as local capped players are available at a premium. With Kane Williamson's departure this year, Mayank also provides SRH with a captaincy option. They can't bench Brooks because of the price they paid for him.

Gujarat Titans

Best Buys: Shivam Mavi (Rs 6 crore), KS Bharat (Rs 1.2 crore), Kane Williamson (Rs 2 crore)

Mavi's Rs 6 crore contract may attract attention, but there aren't many good Indian T20 bowlers on that roster, so Mavi had to go for a higher price. Kona Bharat, a Delhi Capitals goalkeeper who struggled last season, is one of the two steal buys. Although Kane Williamson isn't always in the starting lineup, he could serve as a stabilizing force on difficult surfaces.

Delhi Capitals

Best Buys: Mukesh Kumar (Rs 5.50 crore), Phil Salt (Rs 2 crore), Ishant Sharma (Rs 50 lakh)

Another team, the Delhi Capitals, made their picks with a lot of common sense. Mukesh Kumar, who played net bowling for the franchise the previous season and is now a regular for India A, has the ability to pitch the ball up, making him a good Powerplay option in the later stages of the tournament.

Phil Salt, an Englishman who had blasted Pakistani bowlers in the T20 away series a few weeks prior to the T20 World Cup in Australia, was undoubtedly the bargain buy. It couldn't have been better for Rs 2 crore. Ishant Sharma's base price is also a good deal because his experience can sometimes be useful.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Best Buys: N Jagadeesan (Rs 90 lakh), Vaibhav Arora (Rs 60 lakh)

N Jagadeesan, who has performed well in the TNPL and recently held the world record for highest List A score (277), was acquired for less than a crore, despite the fact that KKR lacked any remaining funds. In fact, KKR struggled with keepers last year, even with Baba Indrajith serving in that capacity. Jagadeesan might just be a more reliable component of their strategy this time around.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Best Buys: Will Jacks (Rs 3.2 crore). Reece Topley (1.90 crore)

Will Jacks, an England batter, and Reece Topley, an England left-arm seamer who had recently posed a challenge to India in an ODI at the Lord's, were two of Royal Challengers Bangalore's moderately good picks. They did express an interest in a few players, but due to a lack of funds, they were unable to proceed.

Rajasthan Royals

Best Buys: Jason Holder (Rs 5.75 crore)

At the Sawai Man Singh stadium, where batters get a lot of value for their shots, they settled on Jason Holder, who might be a useful option.
